Malverne Stellenbosch Pinotage Reserve 2004
Seymour Pritchard bought Clos Malverne in 1969 but didn't produce under the estate name until 1986. A firm believer in Pinotage, some 60% of production is given to this, the Cape's 'USP' varietal. The estate is in the Devon Valley at 300m, 20km from the Indian Ocean. Winemaking here is very traditional with winemaker Isak Smit favouring basket presses and open top fermenters. John Platter, South Africa's leading wine critic says of this Reserve Pinotage "Showy, deep-flavoured barrel selection bristles with awards, supremely confident and seamless." |
