Bay Western Cape Chenin Blanc 2007
Observers of the Loire Valley are already well aware of the potential of this
grape, and little by little, folk are starting to see that examples from the Cape
can also offer interest and complexity. This is delicious – just ever so slightly
‘off-dry’ on the finish with lip smacking citrus acidity and a vibrant lemon and
honey palate. This has only just moved on to the ’06 vintage; rather late given
that it has not spent any time in wood. Apparently, the fermentation was induced
using only natural strains of yeast and took ‘forever’ to finish, but was definitely
worth the wait.
