Casa de Saima Bairrada
Tinto 2002/3
Outstanding, traditional red from one of the most highly regarded regions and
growers therein; Dr. Carlos Almeida e Silva has 12ha planted to both red and white.
For his excellent red, Baga is the most significant with about 10% each of Castelão
and Tinta Pinheira. The wine is made traditionally by Rui Moura Alves, fermented
without de-stalking on open granite lagares and then aged in oak for up to three
years, giving substantial ageing potential. This is an eminently ‘food-friendly’
red that works well with most meats, but if your thing is suckling pig, then look
no further.
