la Monacesca Verdicchio di Matélica 2006
This is the lesser-known Verdicchio; Matélica is a hilly outcrop inland from the
better-known commune of Jesi. Aldo Cifola grows this meticulously well-made dry
white on the original estate of the DOC that was founded by his father, Casimiro.
Surprisingly deep in colour with a lovely, slightly buttery minerality, rich and
well-rounded with a clean citrus fruit and surprising complexity with a tangy
finish from vines averaging 30 years of age.
