Soave Classico 2006
A lot of Soave is not noteworthy at all, but an increasing number of growers such
as Anselmi, Pra, Gini and the ‘Old man’ of Soave - Pieropan are attracting much
attention. However Stefano Inama grabs more of the limelight than any of these
with wines of richness and complexity based on late harvesting, skin contact,
the judicious use of oak and no filtration. Soave is based around Garganega, which
must comprise 70% of the wine to qualify for DOC, with Trebbiano di Soave and
Chardonnay making up the balance. Inama, however, is fervently against blending
local and ‘international’ varietals.
