Ormanni Chianti Classico 2004
Ormanni is a 300ha estate on the western side of the region that was founded in
1818 with some 60ha given to vineyards. The winemaker, Giulio Gambelli is well
into his 70’s and has enjoyed a lifelong love affair with Sangiovese. This enticing
’03 Classico has a ripe nose with earthy berry fruits and juicy notes with a slightly
‘leafy’ herbal edge. The palate is rounded and quite full with a nervy, acidic
edge, there is some tannin but it is surprisingly soft, finishing with good length
and a nice concentration / depth of flavours, there is almost a hint of a burnt
property - well rounded.
