Mascarello ‘Monprivato’ Barolo 2000
Monprivato is a monopole in the highly regarded commune of Castiglione Falletto.
Mauro took over from his father Giuseppe in 1967, briefly flirted with modern
ways then promptly returned to more traditional methods; very late harvesting
followed by a prolonged maceration and extended maturation in botte. His Baroli
are deceptively pale, even in youth, but take on weight and complexity with age
and this is capable of a couple of decades as a minimum! “It is certainly one
of the most complete and harmonious wines in Alba.” David Gleave MW, The Wines
of Italy
