‘Scudetto’ Barbera d’Alba 2003/4
‘Scudetto’ is a serious wine with an excellent depth of flavour and concentrated,
gamey style. Barbera is grown throughout Piedmont and although traditionally regarded
as at its best from around the town of Asti, I have come to view the winegrowing
scenario in the hills of the Langhe as being more akin to Burgundy, i.e. it is
the grower rather than the DOC that is of most significance, and Mascarello is
regarded as one of the best.
