La Pieve Chianti 2005
Finally, ‘proper’ Chianti without the astronomical price tag! Simone Tognetti’s
16ha of vineyards are in a near perfectly sheltered spot at 500m which allows
his grapes to achieve optimal ripeness and a decent amount of potential alcohol.
The blend here is very traditional; 90% Sangiovese with 5% each of Canaiolo and
Colorino, none of which see any time in oak. The wine is nearly opaque with a
lovely concentration and attractively rustic cherry aroma.
