Frères Pernand-Vergelesses 2005
This comes from around the back of the famous hill of Corton; there you will find
a small, shady valley containing the sleepy little village of Pernand-Vergelesses.
It has long been the case that the best values in Burgundy are to be had from
the lesser-known villages, and this is certainly the case here, although ‘P-V’
is predominantly a red wine village with 75% given to Pinot Noir. Just on the
opposite slope, however, are the revered Chardonnay vines of Corton-Charlemagne
- this is in a similar style; taut and elegant yet rounded and creamy with good
length.
