Joseph Drouhin ‘Clos
des Mouches’ Beaune Blanc 1’er Cru 2004
One of the most revered white Burgundies, the jewel in the crown of Domaine Joseph
Drouhin has an enviable reputation and an excellent record for longevity. The
vast majority of 1’er Cru vineyards on the Côtes de Beaune are given to Pinot
Noir, as indeed is part of Drouhin’s holding in the Clos des Mouches, but somewhat
perversely, yet quite understandably, it is for this rich, concentrated white
with its rounded, fat buttery texture and pronounced minerality that it is best
known. Delicious already, but this will be sublime in 8 - 10 years time.
