On first visiting this 2.5ha walled vineyard you can’t help but wonder what inspired
Bernard Vallet’s great grand father to have bought it back in 1900; on the face
of things it is on completely ‘the wrong side of the tracks’ (N74) on the valley
floor rather than on the more favoured ‘golden slopes’ of the Côtes de Nuits.
He obviously knew something significant as this small plot continues to yield
wines of depth, balance and finesse with surprising longevity – we enjoyed some
’76 in the cellars earlier this year that was still incredibly fresh, almost youthful!
