L'Enclos Gallen Margaux 2000/1
This is a serious and well-structured wine that will happily repay keeping for
ten years or so. That having been said, this wine, made by Corinne Bonne, is approachable
now, but certainly benefits from decanting / being 'jugged'. Most unusually for
Margaux, this is 80% Merlot with just 20% Cabernet Sauvignon averaging 25 years
old from a 1.6ha vineyard with just 7 500 bottles produced in 2000. The wine was
aged for 18 months in oak, 50% of which was new. Consultant œnologist Eric
Boissenot also advises at Châteaux Lafite, Latour, Margaux and Palmer amongst
others!
