Colomé ‘Amalaya’, Calchaquí
red blend 2005
Established in 1831, Colomé is the oldest winery
in Argentina. It is a considerable estate of some
39 000ha in the Salta district which is found in the
top north-west 'corner' of Argentina. At over 2300m
above sea-level, with some of their vineyards pushing
3000m, this is the highest commercial vineyard in
the world. All of their vineyards are farmed biodynamically,
essentially continuing practices used in the region
by the Calchaquíes and Incas more than 2000
years ago! ‘Amalaya’ is 70% Malbec, 20%
Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Bonarda that was aged for
12 months.
