Hugel
& Fils ‘les Fleurs d’Alsace’ 2006
Established in Riquewihr, the most picturesque, fairytale village you could imagine,
since 1639; Hugel is one of the ‘Grands Maisons d’Alsace’ and is probably the
best known of them all. Currently at the helm, young(ish) Etienne Hugel represents
the ‘umpteenth’ generation in continuous ownership. Les Fleurs d’Alsace is a blend
of 5 noble grapes; Gewürztraminer (for spicy flavour), Pinot Gris (for body),
Riesling (for finesse), Muscat (for fruitiness) and Sylvaner (for its refreshing
character. It is a splendid introduction to this most underrated region, brilliant
either with or without food.
